CHIANG MAI, Thailand — October 6, 2026 — Chiang Mai has launched its “12 Months, 12 Festivals” initiative under the concept “Chiang Mai Festival City,” aiming to strengthen tourism marketing, promote year-round travel and position the province as a global festival destination.
The launch was held at Central Festival Chiang Mai at 4 p.m., chaired by Chiang Mai Deputy Governor Boonlue Thamthoranurak. Government agencies, private-sector partners, tourism organizations, local communities and media representatives joined the event.
The initiative brings together Chiang Mai’s cultural heritage, traditions, local wisdom, way of life and creativity to develop diverse tourism activities and experiences throughout the year. Organizers hope the program will attract visitors across different seasons while creating opportunities for local businesses and communities.
The launch featured tourism and festival promotions, 12 Creative Workshops, an AI Photobooth, introductions to the 12-month festival calendar, games and prizes, Lanna cultural performances and a discussion titled “Chiang Mai, City of Festivals: Great Activities Worth Sharing.” The discussion focused on developing festivals as drivers of tourism, the creative economy and community development.
Supporting activities include Mu Month, a festival celebrating faith in Chiang Mai, and the Chiang Mai Community-Based Tourism Festival, which promotes local tourism potential and connects community products, services, lifestyles and identities with the wider tourism market.
Chiang Mai hopes the “12 Months, 12 Festivals” campaign will increase awareness, encourage travel, extend visitor stays and spending, and distribute tourism revenue to businesses and communities while supporting the province’s goal of becoming “Chiang Mai Festival City” and advancing sustainable tourism.
