Thailand's Immigration Bureau has arrested an American man wanted by US authorities on fraud and contempt of court charges involving approximately $4 million (around 135 million baht) in damages. The suspect, identified only as "Mr. Daniel," was taken into custody at a luxury condominium in the Asoke area of Bangkok.
The arrest followed a request from the US Embassy in Thailand, dated September 24, notifying Thai authorities of the outstanding US warrant. During their investigation, the Immigration Bureau's Investigation Division also discovered that the 46-year-old suspect had overstayed his visa by 92 days.
On October 9, officers from the Immigration Bureau's Investigation Division arrested the suspect and charged him with overstaying his permitted stay. He has been handed over to investigators for legal proceedings and is expected to be extradited to the United States.
Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol Lt Gen Noppasilp Poolsawat said the arrest reflects the bureau's commitment to tracking down foreign fugitives wanted by international authorities, stressing that Thailand will not serve as a safe haven for those evading the law.
