CHIANG MAI, Thailand — October 7, 2026 — Chiang Mai Immigration officers, working with the Chiang Mai Provincial Employment Office, arrested a Myanmar national in Sop Mae Kha Subdistrict, Hang Dong District, for allegedly working outside the scope permitted by his work authorization.

The operation followed orders from Thailand’s Immigration Bureau to step up inspections of foreign nationals suspected of violating immigration or employment laws. Officers from Chiang Mai Immigration conducted inspections in the area and found the Myanmar national working inside a shop.

According to officials, the man had permission to stay temporarily in Thailand and held a work permit for a Thai employer under the occupation category of “laborer.” However, officers found him working as a shop sales assistant, serving customers and handling payments. He allegedly told officers that he had been working at the shop for about four months without changing his registered employer.

Officials said he was being paid 350 baht per day. He was charged with working outside the scope of his authorized employment and failing to notify the registrar of his employer, workplace and job description within the required period. He was taken to Hang Dong Police Station for further legal proceedings.
