PATTAYA, Thailand — October 7, 2026
Thai Immigration investigators have arrested a 41-year-old Chinese national wanted by Chinese authorities over an alleged bank embezzlement case involving approximately 5.5 million yuan, or about 27 million baht. The suspect, identified as MR. YANG (pseudonym), had allegedly remained in Thailand for more than seven years after his permission to stay expired.
Immigration officers said YANG entered Thailand on July 15, 2019, and was permitted to remain until July 29 that year. He allegedly continued staying in the country without valid permission for 2,642 days. Investigators eventually traced him to a condominium in Pattaya, where he was detained at around 3:40 p.m. on October 7.
According to information provided by Chinese authorities, YANG was wanted under an arrest warrant issued on July 15, 2019, by the Public Security Bureau in Siping, Yunnan Province. Investigators allege that between 2018 and 2019, while serving as a general business manager at Beiyin Rural Town Siping Bank, he used his position to transfer company funds into his personal account on 12 occasions, totaling approximately 5.5 million yuan. The money reportedly had not been repaid, causing significant financial losses to the bank.
Chinese authorities formally asked Thai Immigration to locate and detain YANG, confirming that he remained a wanted person. After a prolonged investigation, Immigration Division 1 officers located him in Pattaya. He was initially charged with entering and remaining in Thailand after his permission to stay had expired and was handed over to Pattaya City Police for legal proceedings. Authorities will also proceed with the relevant process concerning the arrest warrant issued by China.
